Microsoft Advertising Account Permissions

When setting up the Microsoft Advertising integration with Flip.to, you must ensure your Microsoft account has the correct identity type and permissions level.

Troubleshooting Common Errors

Error: Microsoft sign-in identity mismatch

This error occurs when the Microsoft account you are currently signed into does not match the identity type expected by Microsoft Advertising. This is most commonly caused by users who were originally added to the Microsoft Advertising portal using Google Sign-In.

To fix this mismatch:

  1. Remove Access: An admin must remove your user/email access from the Microsoft Advertising admin portal.

  2. Re-invite User: The admin should invite your email address back with the correct permissions.

  3. Accept Invitation: Accept the invite and create/sign in to your user as a Personal account.

    • Crucial: Do not use the "Google Sign-In" option during this setup.

  4. Re-authorize: Return to the Flip.to dashboard and re-authorize the connection.

Still seeing the error? If you did not use Google Sign-In, you may be using the wrong "Identity Type" for your email. If you signed in with a Personal account but the user was added as a Work/School account (or vice versa), try signing in again with the alternative identity type.


Required Permission Levels

To successfully authorize the integration, your Microsoft Advertising user must have one of the following roles:

  • Super Admin: Full access to all accounts.

  • Standard User: Access to manage campaigns and view reports.

Users with "Advertiser Campaign Manager" or "Viewer" roles may experience issues during the authorization process.

Using a Work or School Account

If your organization uses Microsoft 365 or Azure Active Directory, you likely have a Work or School account.

When authorizing:

  1. Select Work or school account on the Microsoft sign-in screen.

  2. If your organization has strict IT policies, an Azure AD administrator may need to grant "Admin Consent" for the Flip.to application to access your advertising data.
