Using Zapier with Mailchimp

Here is a sample “Zap” (a simple automated process) that takes Flip.to’s Advocacy leads and adds them as subscribers to MailChimp. The same concept can be used to add Discovery Plans & Email Opt-outs into any platform of your choice.

Step 1: Get started

Login to Zapier and click the “Make a Zap” button.

Step 2: Define a “Trigger”

Name your new zap.

Choose “Flip.to” as your trigger.

Choose your trigger type. In our example, we chose “New Advocacy Lead”. Click “Continue” button after making your selection.

Choose an already connected account if you have one and you’ll get to skip the next step. Otherwise, click the “Sign in to Flip.to” button.

Enter the API Key provided by your Flip.to Customer Success Manager. Click the “Yes, Continue” button on the popup modal, then the “Continue” button on the page.

Next, we need to configure the feed. Please specify:

  • The property to monitor for new leads.

  • The number of days to wait for a warm lead to be nurtured in Flip.to before pulling it into your own marketing funnel. Our recommendation is 30 days.

We strongly recommend that you do not include Flip.to “privacy restricted” leads. Any email sent to Flip.to “privacy restricted” leads without their explicit permission is in violation of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Hit test trigger to attempt to pull sample data from Flip.to’s database.

Given the small search window for this test, it is very likely nothing is returned.

When Zapier gives up searching, hit “Skip Test”. The differences between real and our provided example data are inconsequential for setup.

Hit “Continue” to accept the provided example data.

Step 3: Define an “Action”

Find the application that you’d like to receive the Flip.to lead data. In this example, we’ll choose Mailchimp.

Choose the action you’d like to perform for each new warm lead. In our example, we’ll add a new subscriber.

Now for the magic! The test data you acquired in the trigger can now be used as tokens to fill out fields in the destination system.

In this example, we click the add token button to the right of subscriber email and choose the “Warm Lead Email Address” token as the value. Fill out all applicable fields and hit “Continue”

Optionally, you can test your integration by sending your sample warm lead to your system, or just “Skip Test”.

That’s it! You’re done! Just turn it on to start receiving new lead data.
